I have a new tumblr for all things related to my documentary, TRANSFIBRES. The Documentary focuses on modern perceptions and attitudes towards women, feminism, the LGBTQ community and Gender Identity. I am looking for volunteer interviewees so find me at Transfibres.tumblr.com.
Cheers,
Daniel.
Hello Followers! Off topic for a post, but it’s Anti-Street Harassment Week 2012 and I’m trying to help raise awareness and change the stoic ‘it’s just a fact of life’ attitudes engrained within a lot of people. Nobody deserves to be objectified, insulted or made to feel unsafe in their community. I’m just going to leave a wee questionnaire here for you to ponder over and hopefully fill out if you get the chance. Preferably, I’d like to hear opinions from both sexes. Reblog or submit.
Best,
MOTHLIGHT…
Age: Gender:
1. Have you ever been harassed in public? This can include wolf whistles, jeers, lewd comments, path blocking, shouting, propositioning and anything that has made you feel uncomfortable.
2. Approximately, from what age do you recall this instances happening?
3. What kind of incidents are most common?
4. Do these incidents occur more frequently at night or during the day?
5. What is the gender of the perpetrator?
6. Do they most commonly occur indoors or outdoors?
7. Where do these incidents occur? What kind of areas?
8. Have you ever felt fearful for your personal safety?
9. Do you feel like there is enough authoritative presence to stop this kind of behaviour? I.E. bouncers outside pubs? Bystanders intervening?
10. On average, how many times in the past month have you been harassed? From mild to serious?
11. From 1 to 5, 1 being the least serious and 5 being the most serious, how much of a serious problem do you think street harassment is?
Anything else you would like to add?
Having just watched Invisible Children’s attempts at riling up the masses with their musical ventures (here and here). This is some seriously offensive material that not only seems to deviate away from the actual action by condescending to the viewer through something they believe will entice them to the cause (and actually it might be a genius move as the only people who signed up to this campaign in the first place obviously have no want or need for anything of substance). Not only that, but it seems to be the work of a great deal of Christian indoctrination and some incredibly anti-feminist imagery (note the mother who takes to the streets with a whisk/egg beater in hand). The only man who needs to be stopped right now is Jason Russell and his white privilege ulterior motives.
OBJECTIFICATION NATION
Side note from regular posting to bring you this. Subtitled ‘I’m sure that every man would agree’, here’s one who doesn’t. I don’t quite understand what it is about the apparent justification behind objectifying a woman and then blaming them because of your own ignorance. A woman’s body is not an invitation, no-matter what she is wearing or how she chooses to wear it and it infuriates me, as a male, to watch the majority of other males operate this Boy’s School persona in public and then propagandize it from the confines of their semen infested bedrooms for an expression of ‘upvote’ solidarity. Pick up a fucking book.
